What kind of students enroll at AU? : Non Program/Visiting/Unclassified

AU has over 40,000 students who come from a variety of backgrounds and demographics. We have students from every province and territory of Canada, and many others from around the world. AU has students who are pursuing a program of study and students who take one or many courses without enroling in a program. Many of our students are adult working professionals looking to advance their careers and achieve their personal goals.

See our AU Facts page for more information on AU student demographics.

Non-program students, also known as unclassified students, take one or many courses without enrolling in a program. Many non-program students are also visiting students. Visiting students take a course, usually on a Letter of Permission, for transfer to a program at another post-secondary institution.

Program students enroll in a program that leads to the award of a credential. The difference between a course and a program is explained in more detail in the next section.
